    7th Gear products are specifically formulated for the powersports industry. Most of the automotive oils out in the market are designed to fulfill a much different set of criteria. Those criteria are not in the best interest of your high performance powersports engine. Automotive manufacturers dictate to the oil industry, their needs and then have the oil companies formulate products to meet those needs. Two of the most important needs are higher gas mileage and lower emissions. Friction modifiers/anti wear agents offer engine protection from metal to metal contact and help them achieve those goals. The most common anti wear agent is ZDDP (zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate) or zinc and phosphorous. The most common friction modifier is Moly (molybdenum disulphide). The problem exists when the one additive that is best for a motorcycle (ZDDP) is bad for cars, and they other additive that is good for cars (Moly) is bad for motorcycles. Moly is a friction modifier used to raise gas mileage in cars. You can tell if oil has Moly in it by looking at the API (American Petroleum Institute) donut on the back. In the lower half of the circle it will say energy conserving. The problem with Moly is that most motorcycles have wet clutches, which means the clutches use the same oil as the motor. Moly will adhere to your clutch plates and cause clutch slippage.
